Hello,
Sorry if this is a long post, but I want to explain the issue in as much detail as I can.
I've recently been experiencing an issue with my internet connection. The setup I have here is the Motorola SB6120, Linksys WRT160Nv3 (used wirelessly on all computers), and Vonage connected to the router (port 1). The issue I've been experiencing is that the internet will randomly drop connection, however, the lights on the modem show no indiciation of any issue - all lights are solid and the activity/link light continues to blink as normal. When this happens, I am not able to connect to the modem configuration page (192.168.100.1) or browse the internet., but I am able to connect to the router's configuration page. All computers in the house lose connection to the internet, but not the router (shows "No internet access" on the network icon). Of course, rebooting the router fixes the issue temporarily for maybe an hour to an hour and a half before this happens again. The connection does not automatically come back without rebooting the router either, so this has become a pretty tedious process in the last couple of days especially since we have Vonage as a phone service. I have tried changing the wireless channel thinking maybe there is interference somewhere, but the issue still seems to remain no matter what wireless channel it's on. I have called Comcast support and explained the situation - they were unable to send a reboot signal to the modem - it continued to have all solid lights and blinking activity light. I ended up replacing the modem and router (with Motorola SB6121 and Linksys N750) the same day just to try. Within an hour of being connected to the internet, the issue still persists (the new modem lights were solid with a blinking activity light, but "No internet access"). Comcast then sent out a technician to check the signal. The technician did not find any issues to the signal coming into the modem and could not figure out what was causing the issue (of course it was working fine when he was here). He mentioned that it could be noise distorting the signal from the outside line, but found it odd that the modem lights were functioning as if nothing was wrong. Ultimately, he stated he was 99.9% sure it was not my equipment and referred the issue to technicians who work on the outside line coming into the house and said to wait for them to possibly fix the issue.
I wanted to post here to see if anyone else has experienced this same issue before, and if so, were there any solutions? Is there anything I can do on my part to possibly solve the issue? Any insight at all would be appreciated.
Here is the current signal to the modem:
