Sooooooo, I've had plenty of internet problems in the past. I finally got a higher level tech to come out and he found a problem outside my house and fixed it. They also found ingress coming from a neighbor's place and fixed that as well.
Everything was OK, but then I did notice some random and weird readings here and there from tests that I had run. I ran the test because my game play online was not very good.
Anyways, I have been using the Comcast DNS servers because even when I ran tests, they came back the fastest. But tonight I decided to run some tests before I got on and my connection was horrible. 3% packet loss and a high jitter, although my speeds were normal. I changed my DNS server over to Google and everything changed for the better.
I ran several tests before and after I changed my DNS server on more than one website. Is it just a coincidence that my packet loss problem went away when I changed my DNS? How important of a role does DNS play in all of this? Do different DNS servers actually change the route that information takes from point A to B? I read an article a couple of years ago that said gamers should NEVER use Comcast's DNS servers......any thoughts?
Sorry for the n00b question.
