Modem dropping connection at random intervals

I'm using an approved Zoom modem. I've been having trouble with my internet connection over the past few days. The connection will drop every 5 minutes - 4/5 hours. Sometimes it
will then reconnect itself; sometimes I have to turn off/unplug the modem one or several times before it will reconnect.

I've done a "chat" with Comcast about this online - the person tried to convince me that the router is bad. That is rubbish, because I can stream data from one computer to another without any interruption, and I
can see the lights on the modem itself go out (excepting the power light).

I've set up an appointment for a Comcast technician to come out next week to look at it, but I am trying to get a sense of what the issue could be.

Additionally, for the past week or so our (TV) cable connection has been a bit odd, though I didn't think much of it until the problems with the internet began. There is a faint horizontal band that moves up the screen and a low intensity buzz -- neither of which were there before.

The combination of the those two issues make me think there could be some problem with the outside connection or the cable wiring within the house.

Thoughts?
