In early May I contacted Comcast customer service because my internet was not working, they told me there was an outage in the area and had no idea when it would be back on. Three days later service was back on but my speed tests were coming back at 1.5 mbps (my service is up to 50mbps).
I contacted Comcast and they refreshed my modem and the speeds were still not working. A tech came out 5 days later and replaced my modem/router with a new Arris modem, he also ran a new cable line from pole to back of my house. Now my speedtest were coming back ok but I was still getting lag/loss in my connection. The tech told me it was my computer and to have one of my geek friends look at it.
I went so far as wiping my computer to ensure I had no viruses and reinstalled a new OS. Same problem, so I took it to a computer repair company who told me there was nothing wrong with my computer and it worked pefectly fine at their offsite location. I brought it home and same problem; had good speeds but gaming is impossible as latency reached up to 1400.
I called Comcast a few days later and had them refresh my modem. I had no problems for 15 hours, then back to same problem; speedtest indicated normalcy, but could not game with the lag/latency.
A few days later I called Comcast back and told them I'm still having the same problem. They ran some tests and saw that my service was highly unstable and scheduled a tech to come back out. The day before the tech was to arrive, he called me and told me that if they come out and my speedtest is fine, there will be nothing they can do. I wasn't happy to hear that, to say the least. So the 2 techs arrived and basically did what they said. They again changed my modem/router, ran tests and said all their equipment is working fine, but for some reason I still had lag/latency. I showed the Tech my problem and he suggested a new Ethernet card for my computer. So I bought and installed a new Ethernet card. Turned it on, same problem.
I brought my laptop in and hardwired that to my modem. Now the 2nd computer showed the exact same lag/latency problems. I changed my ethernet line, the cable cord and same problem.
Should I schedule a tech to come out to change my modem for the third time for them to tell me my speeds are fine but I still can't do any gaming? Is there a "Next Level" technician who can do some more thorough investigating?
