Greetings,
I am having a few frustrating problems with my internet service. I started my service back in April of this year, so about 6 months now. At the time, I had older equipment, Modem (DOCSIS 2.0)+Router. My Internet package is the Blast! 50mbps. I noticed rather slow speeds at the time, and also the connection was dropping every hour or so. Each time it dropped it would reconnect in about 45seconds though. After contacting support, they told me these problems are because my equipment are old, and that they could not see another solution.
So in May I went and got a new modem(DOCSIS 3.0) and a new wireless router. Immediately after registering them, I noticed a slight upgrade in speed. Probably averaging 20-30down, 10 up. The modem I purchased is on Comcast's preferred list of modems as well. The aggravating part of this, is the fact that the connection was still dropping even after the new equipment. It was worse than before though, sometimes dropping connection every 30 minutes to one hour now. I spoke with probably 8 customer support reps during the next few months because the problem was still occurring, none of which could tell me what was wrong or how to fix it. Every one of them did the same tests, sending refresh signals to my modem, making sure my modem was plugged into a wall outlet and not a splitter. Every one of them just assumed it had to be my equipment.
There is one problem I am not sure about though; the fact I can't connect to the internet with a wired connection to my modem. This is something all of the reps wanted me to do, to narrow down the problem, but I was never able to get a connection when I unplugged my ethernet cord from my router to my laptop. Although I don't believe it is my equipment that is the problem, seeing how I was having the same issues with older equipment, it seems to me to obviously point to something else. When I got the new equipment, I moved the modem/routeer to a new room, and am using all new wires, nothing was carried over from the previous setup.
I was on a short vacation from last Friday to yesterday afternoon. When I got home yesterday, I noticed my speed was absolutely awful. I tried to watch some youtube videos and there was constant buffering. My speeds are about 10 down, .4 up on average. I spoke with 2 different reps this morning about this, and they were not able to help me with this new situation. I have reset both modem and router many times, as well as got 3-4 refresh signals from the reps. None of the steps we went through were any help.
So now I am not sure where I should turn from here. So I guess what I could use some help on is why my connection is regularly dropping, why my speed recently decided to plummet (Nothing was touched or changed while I was gone for the last week), and why connecting my computer to the modem does not give me internet access. Any help is greatly appreciated!
