Motorola SB5100 cablemodem EOL/EOS?

I received a letter from Comcast saying "Our records indicate that your cable modem needs to be upgraded in order to ensure you're getting the most out of your XFINITY(R) Internet service." Of course, there's no specifics about what this means, just vague phrases like how this will "fully maximize our service offerings", or offer "higher speeds, greater security and better reliability".

I don't want to spend money on a new modem unless I know what I'm getting. My current cable modem is a Motorola SB5100, which supports DOCSIS 2.0 and up to 30Mbps upload. My current XFINITY Internet service is "Performance" speed tier, with only 10-15Mbps upload. http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/ doesn't list my device at all, so it's not clear whether or not it's an EOL (end of life) or EOS (end of service) device.

So why should I bother upgrading? Will upgrading to a device that supports DOCSIS 3.0 get me anything that I should care about?
