I bought both a Motorola SB6141 modem and a Zoom 6341j modem.
While I still have had sisues with my connection and a tech is coming out today, at elast for now the Zoom modem is working somewhat.
However, I really wanted to keep the Motorola, so I opened that up and connected it and NONE of the lights related to Comcast would come on. The power light was on and the ethernet light was on and flashing. The upstream and downstream lights would never come on at all.
I restarted the modem. Same thing. I reset modem to defaults, as I really think this modem may have been returned and maybe configured for someone else. That did nothing either. I disconnected the power cable and reconnected it to restart it that way. Nothing new happened.
I thought well maybe my internet was down yet again so I hooked the zoom back up and it was working quickly. The reason I would rather keep the Motorola is the zoom is known for having a smell and although mine is not as strong as people online described, it is enough to be bothering me.
Any ideas why not even the downstream light will come on at all, yet on the zoom and even my leased Motorola it does? Would that mean the modem is broken? Can it be related to firmware or would it still work regardless of firmware version at least enough to have the lights come on?
The firmware version has a 12 at the end and I am thinking ComcastTeds may have told me that the latest Comcast one has a 10 at the end. If so, could mine having a newer firmware version be related and not even allow lights to come on?
