Diagnostic Info minus Modem Status

$

I am unable to obtain modem status on my Arris TG862 when I turn to modem’s status page  at http://192.168.100.1 or http://10.0.0.1. I receive Authentication Error How grim. I read that Arris, especially TG862  has daily password generator but then also read that going privately on Xfinity login avoids this need. What a rumor mill.  I try Enter, admin, admin, admin, blank, administrater, emperor (just kidding) my Comcast log in's etc No luck. I JOIN a speed guide group when I learn different  modems have different ISP sites as above. Going to the test gateway and learning that does not help. I am still unauthenitcated and cannot learn if my modem is too noisy. This from a woman who does not understand a modem from a router but am trying.

I test my modem for address and and get:

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsXX.wa.comcast.net.

   IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2601:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

   Temporary IPv6 Address. . . . . . : 2XX:XXXXXXXXXXXX

   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fXXX::XXXXXXXXXXX Me

   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.XX X  I try this address that I block here out of silliness and fear. It may be correct)

   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 2XX.XXXXX

   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : XXXXXXXXXX (and this one which is is wrong of course)

10.XXXXX (and this one that I am afraid to print here. It should be correct)

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

I find working at 3 AM is helpful but not compatible with life. I don't get kicked off and things move well. tell your kids to do homework then and play games. Comcast should advertise this. Working from 7 PM-midnight--I can't even get on to do these tests. I have Xfinity Blast. My wireless speeds were approximately 12/ 45 which were amazing for here! If only I could work at night!

Here are other results. I assumed I should mask some of the details

(I put half ping in here. Er, didn't know to hit Ctr AND C at first) My summary here:

Packets: Sent = 80, Received = 72, Lost = 8 (10% loss),

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

   Minimum = 10ms, Maximum = 1131ms, Average = 183ms

The variation seems huge. Is that normal?

Thanks to the very helpful man who gave me some information. I don't understand much yet. This reminds me of cargo cult science since I report what I do not hardly grasp. Trace ping seems normal. Haha, like I get that but I think I do. Thanks for all the help on this page. I understand that tests should be repeated at different times during the day. I can't get ON when I need to to test in the evening and will contact Comcast as the very nice man suggested--mentioning squashed wireless signal and other thoughts. Lovely people here!

Unbearably Slow Speeds - Lag Spikes

$
0
0

Hi there,

TL;DR- My connection has been inconsistent for the past two days; it's frustratingly slow most of the time, and I get lag spikes all the time. Trying to watch live streams is unbearable because of constant buffering, and web pages load excruciatingly slow. This was never a problem before these past two days. Tried most of the basic troubleshooting solutions, to no avail. Swapped modems, to no avail. Received help from Comcast live support, to no avail. Here in desperation that someone may have the answer to this problem.

Over the past 2 or 3 days, I have experienced a very slow connection on both my wired and wireless computers. For the past year and a half, my connection has been perfectly fine - no issues whatsoever. The lag spikes are noticeable when trying to load a webpage, or watch a live stream - the live stream buffers incessantly, I can't seem to go an entire minute without it buffering for ~10 seconds, and sometimes even dropping the footage altogether (forcing me to refresh the page - same for webpages; sometimes they simply refuse - or take abnormally long - to load).

I have the Blast! subscription. For my ethernet connection, I was averaging 120Mb/s download and ~40Mb/s upload. Most of my recent speedtests have resulted in far less optimal results. For my wireless adapter connection, I was averaging 40Mb/s download and ~25Mb/s upload. http://gyazo.com/24af5d0fa2842643f5054c247e5145a2 The one thing that troubles me about these results is how inconsistent and unstable they are. My pingtests are also rather unstable. My average result consists of ~6% packet loss with ~100ms ping and jitter.

I chatted with a Comcast representative earlier today, and they were giving it their all to restore my connection back to its previous glory. They instructed me to do several things, such as hard-resetting the modem, soft-resetting the modem, etc. Eventually they said, "Perfect!! Everything should be fine now!". Evidently, on their end everything looked fine, while on my end the lag continued, with no changes whatsoever. They were perplexed, and now I am awaiting a call with a Resolution Ticket #. I would really like to avoid a tech visit simply because it costs money (yes?) and it inconveniences my schedule. However, if this is the only thing that will fix my problem, I'd be more than glad to adjust for it.

Oh, and I also swapped out my modems earlier today. I previously used the Technicolor TC8305C and now use the Arris TG862G. There has been absolutely no difference in my connection - the problem persists through modems and wireless/wired connections. It's baffling, but that's probably because I have little to no experience dealing with this type of problem.

What  could be causing this problem?

I'm hoping some of you guys might know what's going on, and thus I welcome any and all suggestions to possibly fix this problem. Thank you to anyone who reads this and offers their suggestion(s). :smileyhappy:

Hey I need to have a new 3.0 wireless modem sent to my house to upgrade my older modem.  I was told that I could do this free of charge.  I have had trouble finding the tab to get this ordered to my house address that is on my account.

As the title says, i have no "Activation Information Card."

I do have a small piece of paper that says "Account Information" on it.

Does that small piece of paper with the label "Account Information" = "Activation Information Card"?

And if so, why the two different names???

Need IP mode in Motorola SB6141 changed from IPv6 Only to IPv4/IPv6

$

Activated Motorola SB6141 (DOCSIS 3.0) 3 days ago with Comcast but the activation set the modem configuration to IPv6 Only. I have a Sonicwall TZ150 behind the modem and a Dell switch PowerConnect 2708 behind the firewall, both which are appear not to be IPv6 ready. I also have other equipment in home not IPv6 capable. Hence I need IPv4 support for now. I need the modem IP Mode configuration set to IPv4/IPv6 or IPv4 Only.  I have Talked to Motorola support and they state the the IP mode is set by the internet provider during activation. I have talked with Comacast activation group and technical support group and even elevated it up a level but they claim they are unable to control a particular parameter including the IP Mode when activating the modem. I hate to go back to my old slow modem and I don't need to spend $$$$ to upgrade other equipment at this time. Has anyone confronted this issue? Know the right people at Comcast to contact? Resolution?

New xfinity modem/router

I am so disappointed with comcast right now! I received the new modem/router from xfinity and have been hesitant to install it, due to the fact that even though my other modem was slow, I was still able to use it, and you never know when installing something new if it's going to work or not.  Well my fears came true! I tried to install it the other night and I have a VOI vonage modem as well that was connected to my old set up.  After installing and activating the new set up I was unable to get telephone service at all and the internet came and went.  I tried calling support twice using my tracphone but got no where with them.  I ended up taking the new system apart and re-doing my old set up, and now they won't work either!!! I am now without internet or a home telephone!

Did my old modem get de-activated when I activated my new one!? I don't understand, and can get no help from support, last night when I called I was greeted with someone laughing, then putting me on hold, when she decided she couldn't help me she stated she was going to forward me to technical support, after holding for what seemed like eternity I finally hung up.
