Constant latency and dropouts on wireless

$

I'm writing becuase I think I've exhausted all of the options I can come up with on my end.

My problem started several months ago, but seems to be inconsistent. I often get bad latency spikes on wireless on my home network. I have a DOCSIS3 modem with a D-Link DIR645 router. This prolem has persisted through 3 different modems, and 4 different routers. I've checked my modem signal strength on the local network, and it seems to be within the acceptable thresholds on my end. I don't seem to have many problems when I'm wired (i've got a PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One direct wired), but I'm primarily using netflix, so I don't know that i'd notice small latency issues or infrequent dropouts.

The problem seems to be much worse via wifi - I've been running a ping -t for the past 10 minutes or so, and these are my results:

    Packets: Sent = 2020, Received = 1942, Lost = 78 (3% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 9ms, Maximum = 3817ms, Average = 300ms

I'm 20 feet from my router at the most. Signal strength is excellent in the bedroom and den. I've tried switching wifi channels, hopping channels, using static channels.. and nothing seems to resolve it. I do have a few other networks in the area, but nothing extreme (i'm in a 6 unit complex). It seems like if I have multiple things streaming at once (IE: netflix in the bedroom, standard browsing, or maybe some audio streams in the den) the problem gets even worse.

I've got a buddy that's a tech that suggested I may have degradation in the lines before it gets to my condo. Every time I've called support I haven't got anywhere, as it looks like the signal is ok on their end.

If anyone can help, or point me to a direction where someone had a similar problem, I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks,

John

I have just recently started experiencing latency issues with my internet due to packet loss. I've run two pathpings that I will attach below, any help to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

internet speeds to low

EXTREME 105 slow since outage

$

I'm up in Canton and there were a few outages this week. One lasted several hours.

After the outage, my cable modem (Zoom) would sync up fine, then lose the up/down stream locks. I called customer support, they walked me through the reset process, which I'd done already myself before calling. I asked the support guy to please send my modem another reset, which he did. That final one did it and everything connected just fine.

However, since then I've noticed my maximum speed is 20mbps up/down according to http://speedtest.net (which I believe Comcast owns). And now I am experiencing unjustified latency in many areas (web browsing, ssh, image loading, etc.).

Of course, being a network engineer, I investigated the situation and found that I can no longer traceroute from my machines past the Comcast gateway:

user@azrael:/home/user$ traceroute www.yahoo.com

traceroute to fd-fp3.wg1.b.yahoo.com (98.139.180.149), 64 hops max
1 192.168.66.1 2.331ms 1.667ms 1.952ms
2 96.120.4.125 9.107ms 0.904ms !H 8.936ms

That's it. Every traceroute is the same. So what's going on Comcast? Are you balancing my content? I no longer have direct access without going a mysteriously, possibly nefarious, black box? I'm not happy about this at all.

Please fix my speed.

Issue #2. My account is listed with two modems. One of which I do not have (an AR something) and, on top of that, I believe you're billing me for it. Please remove this from my bill and I would like a credit for the year of billing me for a rental I don't have.

Greetings,

After upgrding my modem, my pings to comcasts speedtest are now 140ms+ instead of the typical 40ms they were before. Connection is spotty as well. I'll post info below, if anyone could check it for any obvious defects. Thanks in advance for any assitance

I have blast service and am getting 5mbs d/l and around 12mbs upload

I am paying for Internet speed of 50 Mbps and got DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Laterly, for past two months, I am getting only 10 Mbps. I have talked to lot of agents and made complaint but nobody cares.

Can I no longer upgrade service on my own "approved" Cisco DOCSIS 3 modem?

I have the entry level internet service and had been runiing on a DOCSIS 2 Motorola Surfboard for some time. Last year in anticipation of improving the service, I replaced it with a Cisco Docsis 3 modem which was installed and working fine. I just went to upgrade the service to one of the higher supported speeds and while I can add the service to the cart there is NO WAY to remove the $10 a month Comcast modem that I don't need. There is an "Edit" option that does nothing but return to this screen: What's the solution here?
