Broken Connection: SB6141 Modem Restarts (T4 Timeout)

Hi Connection Gurus,

I am the new subscriber of Comcast Internet+TV Bundle Blast!(50 mbps DL/ 10 mbps UL).  I choose Comcast as the connection stablity and speed are critical to me.  Like what is suggested in Amazon, my Modem is a brand-new Motorola SB6141 from Amazon(8 DL channels).

After the activation of the Mar 7th(last Friday), the connection keeps dropping several times in an hour and I had never been able to stream a HD video from youtube over 1 minutes.  The initial n seconds is good but after that, the video freezes.  In a word, the connection is not usable.

In addition the speed is not stable(DL from 3-18mbps, really slow):

And also the skype quality has dropped significantly and even comparing to the 768kps Wifi in the hotel.

I had suspected the router and wifi signal but it turns out to the related to somewhere in modem.

I summarize the odem configuration page as follows(need to click to view as 1:1 to see the texts)

  1. Signal page: https://www.dropbox.com/s/7shrlne42ans4lj/SB6141%20Signal%202014-03-11.png

  2. Log page: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hfiknf1kef2ztjr/SB6141%20Log%202014-03-11.png

You can see that even in the morning of 3am, the connection is extremely slow and in 10am, the connection not usable!

It seems that the issue is related to the Signal level of the download stream.  All the DL channel below the 33db are causing a lot of errors or correctable traffic.

My guess it is due to the cable quality or installation.  Thus I had arranged an call with the technician online and waiting for the initial call from Comcast.

Does my guess make sense?  Want to get more background when I got call from Comcast.

Sincerely yours,

Michael Luo
