lag / timeouts / packet loss

I've posted before about issues I've had with Comcast internet for over a month now.  They seemed to have ironed out most of the severe issues, but I'm still left with lag spikes / packet loss.  It's nowhere near as bad as it previously was(can stream movies/browse without a hitch), but can be seen when playing any game and is making any online gaming pretty much impossible.

Trying to narrow down where issue was, I pinged the WAN default gateway for about an hour, and found intermittent timeouts (1% packet loss overall), and lots of ping spikes littered in there, many maxing out at ~3,000ms.

Also been getting the following messages in my Modem's log:

No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=30:60:23:d4:1e:cd;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:31:24:85;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

Unicast Maintenance Ranging attempted - No response - Retries exhausted;CM-MAC=30:60:23:d4:1e:cd;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:31:24:85;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

Ranging Request Retries exhausted;CM-MAC=30:60:23:d4:1e:cd;CMTS-MAC=00:01:5c:31:24:85;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0;

My modem's stats (SB2161):

Downstream SNR - 36/35, power levels about -9 during the day, -6 at night.

Upstream power levels I believe were 40, 44, 38

Does this seem like something going on with Comcast's lines?  My signal stats all seem fine so I'm worried it might be Modem, but thougth I'd ask for some advice here before doing anything about it
