Houston Internet Service Slow

Internet download speed has been way down the last few days. Yesterday it was going in and out all afternoon. I did a speed test last couple days. It was 2Mbps - 10Mbps. Funny thing is, after about 6pm CST the download speed is back to normal. Is anyone else having these same issues? Comcast, are you doing some maintenance and this is why speeds are so slow? Would be nice if you would let us know. I even tried doing the live chat. Said waiting time was 1 minute. Waited a half an hour and no response. What's up Comcast?

What is going on with my internet?

The past two days I have had issues with accessing the Internet on and off. I have the wireless gateway (modem and router) combined and the U.S./DS is repetitively blinking. Occasionally it may go through and correct itself; other times I need to power cycle the device. I visited Comcasts' outage map and my area is not experiencing any outages,

IP address state assignment

I know there are some IP addresses assigned for use in a specific country and by a specific ISP. I would like to know if any IP addresses are assigned by state. I ask because while WhatIsMyIPAddress.com says correctly that the location of the IPv4 address is Maine, on Facebook it says my IPv6 address is located in New Jersey. As a result, I have gotten some automated business page suggestions for some New Jersey businesses, even though I'm in Maine.

I don't know where you are located, but we are having the same problem. The download speed has dropped from my usual 70-80m to 2 to 4m. Totally unacceptable. And it is not my hardware. I've rebooted and checked the hardware and am satisfied that nothing has happened. And there hasn't been a storm anywhere near my home for several days prior to this weekend.

SB6121- Another T3/T4 Timeout Thread

Hello,

I've been having intermittentancy problems (T3 and T4 timeouts) since moving to a new neighborhood 4 months ago and they still have not fixed it. Sometimes I'll go days without a reset, but it often happens multiple times a day and sometimes multiple times in a row. The modem worked fine at my old apartment, but I have had nothing but problems at my new house.

I've had 5 separate tech visits (both regular and "upper-level" techs) and no one can find anything wrong. I've had all new cable run through my house, tried a different modem, different router, etc. Each time I call customer support, they want to send a tech out even though I tell them the ordinary techs won't do anything. The last tech to visit said I should request a line technician (someone to look at the connections on the telephone pole), but I was told they will only send someone if multiple people on my block complain.

I'm at my wits end with these disconnections because both my wife and I work from home a lot and need the internet. Phone support is useless as they only want me to restart everything or send a tech out, even though I explain I've done all that and a regular tech can't help me.

Oversaturated Node

For the last six months the Internet has been near unusable during peak hours (~6pm to midnight). I pay for 50mbps but rarely see greater that 5mbps download during those times. I've had a multitude of technicians come to the house and verify all my equipment is working flawlessly. I even tried switching to Comcast business hoping to be on a separate VLAN or have different QoS / traffic shaping filters applied with no luck. Still the same slow service. I'm really at a loss now as what to do. Comcast's phone support can not grasp that the node is oversaturated and desperately needs to be split. What can be done to fix this?

DNS resolution delays?

I periodically have DNS issues. I use a mac, it is configured to get DNS info from DHCP. Basically when I browse, the browser does not follow a link and says it is resolving host name. It eventually fails. It is not just the browser, though:

$ nslookup www.mbusa.com
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 75.75.76.76, trying next server
Server: 75.75.75.75
Address: 75.75.75.75#53

** server can't find www.mbusa.com: NXDOMAIN

When this happens, connectivity is fine. It may be finding other servers. Feels like whatever is in the cache works

Have you seen this, and if not, what are your DNS settings?
