HELP!!!!!!! At end of my rope!
Yellow light on modem
my hp laptop will not connect to wifi
DHCP issues?
Hey all
My internet will slow to a crawl at random times and this happens numerous times throughout the day. Anytime my internet slows down, the message below is what I will see in the router logs. This will usually lasts 2-3 minutes and then internet becomes normal again.
I was so used to the T3 errors that I would immediately go to my modem logs and constantly refresh the page and look for T3 errors to pop up. But nothing would - there is no activity in my modem logs for May 18 (today). So, I decided to look at my routers logs and this is what showed.

Not really sure what these messages mean, but I can confirm the 17:39:59 logged entries appeared right after my connection bogged down and became unusable. I'm bypassing the router currently so if I need to provide firmware or whatever I will reconnect to it.
I understand a DHCP IP address lease has a fixed duration, and before it expires the lease must be renewed. Each time the lease is renewed (which happens automatically), there's a chance the device will receive a different IP address. You should not lose your connection on a renew. If the lease actually expires and you have to get a new IP, or brand new lease vs a renew - then a temporary disconnect is possible.
It seems a networks of less than 10 machines would benefit from long DHCP lease times because the community of machines is unlikely to change, especially on home networks. Setting DHCP to a week wouldn't hurt for three machines and an average subnet on these routers is a class C (254 usable addresses) so the user(s) would be unlikely to run out of IPs. For a home router it doesn't matter too much, but a lease time of less than a day could cause issues if gaming or streaming online. Feel free to chime in and confirm/deny this.
ipconfig /all (and the router homepage) show a default 120 minute lease time. Would I see any benefit to extending it?
Looking forward to comments and suggestions.
Thanks.
FW updade hit my modem(TG862G) around a week ago and my Modem's System log is littered with the same error every second & connection issues
Around a week and a half ago a modem update was pushed to my Modem (TG862G) around with several reported area outages for multiple days @ around 3 am as confirmed by Xfinity's website and phone service. My modem system log has been littered with an odd error, none that have any resemblences I have seen before. I am unable to see any useful information in the logs what so ever after that firmware update in the system logs, and the other two logs of event and firewall have nothing at all at any point. I am also experiencing what I believe to be bandwidth being tied up even on the smallest downloads (100 KB/S) any & everything I am doing will come to a screeching halt. I am getting 90mbps download / 12 mbps upload on most speedtests, and I wasn't experiencing any issues whatsoever prior to this firmware update. I also don't have anyone using my internet, nor any bandwidth hogging downloads/uploads are running.
I have since system reset to factory and it didn't clear up the issue whatsoever. The only thing it stopped is a weird flickering on the wifi light on the modem that had been occuring since that update, and I also don't use the wifi besides for my phone.
Here's the error that litter my system log:
What does this error mean?
[DOCSIS.CMSTATUS(pid=439)]: CM-STATUS - Event CmStatEv_QamFecLockFail SM set Hold-Off timer to 27500 mSec
It changes msecs multiple times a second in the log, but this is the only error that ever shows.
I have included signal ratios too just to be sure theres no issues elsewhere.

internet still slow even after technician came to fix the problem
About a week ago my internet started to go out. thinking it was just a connection from my pc to my modem problem, i simply reset the modem and went about my business. after resetting it about 20 times, i called comcast to figure out the problem. the guy on the phone said he couldnt detect my modem at all and decided to send a technician out. at the time the lights on my modem would continue to flash like it was trying to connect but couldnt quite get there. two days later after getting off work, i noticed that the lights were solid. i immediately went to my computer to test it out. it worked fine. i decided to cancel my appointment. the next day it started going out again. so regretting my decision to cancel, i called comcast to tell them all over again what happened. this time i kept the appointment. today the guy shows up and tests everything out and finds out theres no connection coming from my cables. so he replaces them. finally gets a connection. i go and do a speed test and my internet speed is 90 down 1-2 up. now the 90 down is usual but the 1-2 up is not. i have never gotten lower than 10 up and that was on a bad day. the technician ( who was super helpful) suggested it might be my ethernet cable. but after trying on a new ethernet cable i got the same results. im wondering if its my modem or not because im out of everything else to try. i could use some ideas.

Only One Upstream Bonding in Houston (use to be 3)
I am having the same issue as this post http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Basic-Internet-Connectivity-And/No-Upstream-Channel-Bonding-Houston-Area/td-p/2745900 with now only getting one channel upload (before 3) and I too am in Houston. This has cut into my download speeds as well as increased my bufferbloat significantly. I have had a service tech come out but of course they do not understand the issue. It looks to be the same issue as the CMTS being misconfigured to add a fourth non-working channel to the group. How can I get someone to fix this issue? Getting past the level 1 & 2's to get it resolved?
Thanks!
Internet is dropping constantly
I'm getting one bonded uplink channel and the power level seem to be higher than recommended by Arris support.
Modem: SB6183
No splitter between the wall and modem but I do live in apartment building. Is there any way to decrease the uplink channel power to something more appropriate?

Internet Slowdown after 5pm
First of all, Hello.
I’ve been having an odd problem with my download speed and Comcast tech support wasn’t much help. So maybe you folks have some suggestions. Sorry for the length but I wanted to get all the details included.
For the last month or so, occasionally after 5pm my download speed drops to 2-4Mbps. Upload remains normal at 5-6Mbps. During the problem the latency goes up slightly (like from 18ms to 20ms). I’m using the speedtest.xfinity.com site for this information. To resolve the issue, I restart the modem.
The modem is SURFboard SB6141 and owned by me. My setup is the modem is wired to an Apple Airport Extreme (latest version) and wired to the router is my computer. Wireless is enabled but lower priority than the wired connection. I did turn off wireless and the problem was still there. Wireless remained off when I called support.
When I say occasionally, prior to this week, it occurred 2 or 3 times. Not big deal. Then this week arrived. One night it started after 6pm (I wasn’t using it before this time) and now the last 2 days the problem started just after 5:00pm.
So tonight I got to the point where I’m convinced this is a problem. I called Comcast support line while the problem is occuring and got the results I was expecting. I explained the above information and said when I restart the modem, the problem goes away.
I did as the tech suggested and connected my computer directly to the modem. My computer would not get an IP address other than the self-assigned 169.whatever. The tech had me restart my computer – same IP address problem. So the tech reset my modem which I explained would “fix the issue”. After the reset, the problem was fixed and my computer got a valid Comcast Internet IP. So problem does not exist at this point.
Tech said the issue maybe all my neighbors coming home and logging in. OK, fine, but does not make sense that I restart my modem and the speed is back to normal. Tech had no other suggestions after I mention this.
I subscribe to the 50Mbps speed tier and get normally in the 53-58Mbps range.
Could this issue be my modem? If yes, why does it only happen after 5:00pm? I occasionally work from home and do not have any issue all day.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be or what I can tell support to get me escalated past the initial support person?
I should also state one of the first times this occurred, I did power off all my network connected devices in case something was going download crazy. That did not help. Only solution is restart of the SB6141 modem.

Poor internet performance
I am having an issue with internet speeds in my apartment. This is an issue because I frequently telework and the Blast! Comcast internet claims speeds of up to 150Mbps but I have rarely seen over 25. I currently pay over $200 for triple pay which is extremely high even if the internet was performing correctly. I am greatly concerned by this issue because my experience with Comcast has been mediocre at best. We had a tv issue for over a year that was solved by adding an adapter but 2-3 technicians never even thought about that and instead replaced our box several times. I am afraid this issue will be the same experience. I have had technicians reset the box a few times without success and then I had a chat logged with a tech who said I would be contacted so I teleworked that day. No one ever contacted me. I also have screenshots of speed tests from today 5/20/16 and the other from 2/8/16 that don't hit 25Mbps download to go with the chat log that I can share. This is very frustrating since I rely on this for work and the amount of money wasted on inadequate internet performance is enough to consider changing companies. I would very much appreciate help in rectifying the issue and receiving performance better than the lowest offered by Comcast. I could have saved tons of money just getting the 50Mbps over the past couple years if I had know Blast! would never achieve levels above the lowest tier. I look forward to a response.
Re: Motorola SB6141 frequent disconnects
Issue I'm having is being capped at 30mb/s - nothing else. The fix is for them to reprovision the modem over the phone. This does not require a tech to be at my house. It is not happening because of the signal to my modem (which is fine). IMHO, its probably happening because I'm not renting a modem from Comcast (but I honestly can't prove that).
I test the speed via speedtest.net or fast.com.
Just want to know if there's a way to reprovision without calling.
